Background of the Study
Electoral transparency is fundamental to democratic consolidation, as it ensures credibility, accountability, and public trust in the electoral process. In Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is at the forefront of safeguarding electoral integrity through reforms and technological advancements, such as BVAS and the electronic transmission of results (Ahmed & Yusuf, 2023). Bauchi LGA in Bauchi State, with its dynamic political landscape, presents an opportunity to assess the efficacy of these measures during the 2023 general elections. Despite INEC's efforts to enhance transparency, challenges such as logistical delays, vote-buying allegations, and resistance to change persist, raising questions about the robustness of electoral reforms (Eze & Mohammed, 2024). This study evaluates INEC’s operations in Bauchi LGA, focusing on the interplay between electoral processes and transparency during the 2023 elections.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The credibility of electoral processes remains a contentious issue in Nigeria, undermining democratic stability. In Bauchi LGA, the 2023 elections witnessed reports of logistical inefficiencies, voter intimidation, and allegations of result manipulation, despite the adoption of transparency-enhancing technologies (Nnadi et al., 2023). These challenges raise concerns about the effectiveness of INEC's operations and the integrity of the electoral process. Furthermore, gaps in voter awareness and capacity building for election officials may have exacerbated these issues. This study addresses these concerns by critically analyzing INEC’s operations in Bauchi LGA, identifying key areas for improvement to strengthen electoral transparency.

1.6 Significance of the Study
The study provides valuable insights into the role of transparency in enhancing the credibility of electoral processes. It contributes to the discourse on electoral governance by offering empirical evidence from Bauchi LGA, aiding INEC and other stakeholders in refining electoral frameworks. Policymakers can utilize the findings to address logistical and operational gaps, while civil society organizations can advocate for reforms that promote electoral integrity. Additionally, the study serves as a reference for future research on electoral processes in Nigeria.
